Honda Jazz 2007

What we love

The capacity of this car is superb.

This car is great for tall people as it has a high ceiling and there is plenty of headroom

Room for improvement

Not great for fitting ISOFix child seats unless  guides are used because the ISOFix bars are set deep into the seat cushions.

The ratcheting rear seat belt made it difficult to comfortably fit a seat belted child seat.

Despite the compatibility list advising that a Britax dualfix I-size would be OK in this car, it would not fit at all due to the short isofix bars and the back foot plate on the seat.

Surprisingly spacious 5 door hatchback.

Boot Size

The boot on this vehicle measured:

Width: 103cm (side to side at narrowest point)

Depth: 70cm (front of boot to back of rear seats)

Height: 58cm (floor of boot to parcel shelf)

The boot is huge for such a small car and the rear seats fold completely flat with a 60:40 split allowing 4 passengers an enormous amount of luggage room. With the rear seats upright, the boot was able to easily fit the pushchair and 2 Trunkies and still had plenty of room to spare. The parcel shelf is removable and can be easily retracted and lifted out.

Storage

The car has four cup holders two in the front console which are accessible from the rear and two under the centre dash only accessible from the front driver and passenger seats.

There is a small storage unit within the centre console but it really is only suitable for pens or similar.

The glove box is not lockable but it easily fits in the car manual and is big enough for an iPad or small tablet there is also a shelf underneath the glove box.

There are door pockets only to the front which are big enough to hold an A for writing pad or packets of sweets. To the rear of the front passenger seat there is a large seat pocket big enough for launch road map or similar sized books.

Lights

Being an older model of vehicle the lighting is basic with one centre interior light that comes on when the door opens, there are two front map lights that can be operated independently and the boot has one small light in which could be easily blocked.

Locks

The child locks located in the rear doors, are simple and manually operated by moving a pin across to the locked position.

The doors are unlocked manually with a key or by pressing the unlock button on the key fob. The boot can only be locked and unlocked by use of the button on the key fob.

Windows

The windows are electrically operated on each door or by main control on the driver’s door which also has a lock facility.

The rear windows will only open 3/4 of the way.

They can be partially locked open.

Fitting Child Seats in this car

You can fit child seats onto all seats of this vehicle including the middle back seat, however you are not allowed a rear facing child in the front passenger seat as the airbag cannot be turned off, the manufacturers advise that children in the front, forward facing, need to be from 18 kilos or upwards.

We could not get three car seats across the back seat of this vehicle, but we could fit two including one in the centre and one behind the driver, leaving the rear passenger side free for an adult.

  • The vehicle seats were fairly flat so the rear facing seat was able to achieve a good angle for a young infant travelling rearward.

The space for an extended  rear facing seat is great – fitted nicely with no compromise on the car door closing.

All head restraints in this vehicle can be removed by simply pressing in the button and pulling out the headrest.

The ISOFix points could be found on the outboard rear seats only but they were difficult to fit  and would definitely benefit from the use of ISOFix guides, which would come with the child seat.

Despite the compatibility list for the Britax Dual fix stating that the seat would fit we couldn’t get it to sit safely because the ISOfix bars are set far back into the seat cushions and the Dual fix ISOFix bars are shorter.

This vehicle does not have anchorage / tether points however the manufacturer advises that they can be retrofitted to the rear near side only.

Although the rear seat belts were long, they tended to ratchet and as such needed to be completely pulled out in order to successfully install a seat belted seat.

Leg space in the rear is good!  Even with the drivers seat pushed back, there is still lots of leg room for a rear adult passenger or older child in a high backed booster.

The doors are a good size and open wide enough so it’s easy to get a child seat in and out of this vehicle.

ISOFIX

Isofix points could be found on the outboard rear seats only but they were difficult to fit  and would definitely benefit from the use of ISOFix guides, which would come with the child seat

This model of the Honda Jazz does not have anchorage/ tether  points however the vehicle handbook does advise that they can be retrofitted to the rear near side.

Highback Booster Additional

The headroom for a high backed booster in its highest position was very good, allowing child to use their car seat until they are 150cm.

Leg space in the rear is good!

Even with the drivers seat pushed back, there is still lots of leg room for a rear adult passenger or older child in a high backed booster.
