Britax Dualfix iSize

What we love

  • The rotation – This seat is so easy to rotate, it’ll spin in any recline position and the button is easy to access and operate
  • Adjustable rebound bar – this allows you to get the perfect fit against your vehicle seat, and also adds a little more leg room for older rear facing toddlers
  • Recline – The recline is fantastic, with 6 positions rear facing, and 6 forward facing, little one can sleep comfortably!  This also makes it a good option for cars with sloped seats

Room for improvement

  • The ISOFix – the ISOFix arms are on a ‘ratchet’ system, so when you clip them onto the ISOFix points in your car, they start to retract back into the seat. This can make it tricky to fit if your ISOFix points are buried in your vehicle seat

iSize 40 – 105cm (max weight 18kg)

The Britax Dualfix iSize is an iSize approved, rotating car seat that is suitable from Birth – 105cm.  It follows on from the original Britax Dualfix, and the range also includes the Britax Dualfix M, which starts from 61cm – 105cm (suitable from approximately 3 months, where the Dualfix iSize is suitable from birth).  This seat fits with ISOFix only, there is no option to belt fit.

ISOFIX

We found the ISOFix very easy to extend, but it is tricky to click to the ISOFix points if they are not easily accessible.  We found the best way to attach the seat was to hold the ISOFix arms tightly, and guide them onto the points, to avoid them retracting back in the seat.  Once we clipped them on, we pushed the whole seat back.

At the top of the support leg is a visible red area – when the support leg has been pulled forward into the correct position, the red is no longer visible.  When the support leg is lowered to the floor, there is a green band to indicate when the support leg is firmly to the floor of the vehicle and you can see this clearly without having to bend yourself into the car.

The indicators for the ISOFix and support leg are located on the ISOFix arms themselves, and the bottom of the support leg.

Instructions

The handbook is a mix of pictures and written instructions. On the side of the seat there are simple diagrams and a QR code which provides further information about the seat.  The language used is not too technical and it covers how to alter the seat for your growing child.

Extra Features

This seat has 6 recline positions whether it is used forward or rear facing.  The recline function goes from upright, to a very reclined position.  The full recline position would be particularly useful in cars that have very sloped seats or for newborns to keep their airways open.  It is always best to try a car seat before you buy, to ensure you are happy with how it will work for your child.

The Britax Dualfix iSize also utilises something they call SICT® – Side Impact Cushion Technology, which is a steel bar that is hidden inside the top of the seat.  In a side impact, this diverts crash forces around the seat.

This seat also has a patented PivotLink® ISOFix, which Britax claim greatly reduces the risk of head and neck injuries in a collision, when forward facing.

Harness

The harness is well designed and not likely to twist with regular use– this is good news for parents, as a twisted harness can be tricky to sort out.  The button to extend the harness is easy to access and the straps adjust freely.

There is a handle to squeeze at the back of the headrest, which you simply lift up or down to set the height of the harness.
